Transgender Day of Remembrance

image

So I was handed this ribbon yesterday because it’s trans* day of remembrance on Thursday 20th November.

It’s a day where trans* people who have been killed in violent incidents are remembered. In the last year, 226 trans* people have been killed around the world – that’s more than two a week.

The ribbon is based on the trans flag. The blue colour represents male, pink for female, and white for everything inbetween, including gender neutral, genderqueer, intersex and agender people.

I went for a relatively simple design, with the colours changed around a bit. I didn’t want to make the reference uber obvious – I’d sooner that it was something of an ‘in reference’. The polishes that I used were
– Sinful Colors Snow Me White
– Nails Inc Elizabeth Street
– 17 Heart Beat

Dracula

Happy Halloween everybody!

This is a Dracula-themed design. I created it using Barry M Gelly in Lychee (which gave Dracula an unusually healthy skin tone; in retrospect I would have used a white!), Nails Inc Victoria for the eyes, and Rio nail art pens in black and white.

I Have Returned!

image

It’s been a while since I’ve posted, but I’m afraid finishing my degree had to come first! It’s finished now though :D

Anyway, this is a relatively simple design involving 17 Heart Beat, Essence Metal Glam Gold Topper (an import from the continent, it’s essentially just a gold flakie) and some gold studs, all finished off with a layer or two of Seche Vite!

GOTpolish Challenge: Orange

Today’s GOTpolish challenge was orange. Yikes. I never wear orange! Luckily I happened to have some Barry M Gelly in Mango left over from a couple of festive designs, so I was able to submit these butterfly nails today!

I was inspired by the famous monarch butterfly, which looks like this

I created the effect with three (!) coats of Mango. I then used two Rio nail art pens in black and white to draw on the design

For the Theme Buffet, today’s theme is cute, so I’ve done a dog-themed design.

GOTpolish Challenge: Chevrons

image

For today’s GOTpolish challenge, I’ve done a blue and nude fishtail chevron mani. They’re super simple to do, and you don’t need ANY tools to do them – not even a nail art brush! You can find a tutorial over at Chalkboard Nails

The two polishes are Barry M Gelly in Blueberry and Lychee

GOTpolish Challenge: Valentines Day

image

Happy Valentines Day everyone! This is my entry for the GOTpolish Challenge Valentines design. It was created using OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls and a red Rio nail art pen.

So, why not a more traditional, feminine design? Less because I’m a grumpy git who won’t have anything to do with this romantic nonsense (bah!) and more because the boyfriend is a first aider who likes all things medical!

GOTpolish Challenge: Green

So, here’s the newest installment of the GOTpolish Challenge 2014! This week’s challenge is green. Not a colour I normally wear, I must confess, so my options for which polish I could use were somewhat limited.

So, to create this mani I
1. Used a base of OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls (two coats)
2. Using the regular brush from the bottle, I applied an off-centre stripe of Sinful Colors Exotic Green
3. Using a Rio nail art pen, I drew four lines on each nail

Next week, I have a rather unromantic Valenines day mani for you!

Tripolish Challenge: Brown, Pink and Grey

So, we’re into February, and month two of the Tripolish challenge! I have to admit that I’ve struggled a little bit with the colour combo – I don’t have many polishes in brown or grey (i.e. one each!), it’s not a colour combo that I’d normally choose to put together, and it’s not really related to many things that you find in nature like last month’s challenge (red, orange and yellow) was. So, definitely a challenge!

One of the rules with Tripolish is that you stick to the same polishes for the whole month, so this month I’ve chosen

  • Barry M in Mushroom (brown)
  • Nails Inc in The Southbank (grey)
  • Essie in We’re All In It Together (pink)

So, without further ado, here goes!
