Festive French Mani

This is my festive french mani for the #NailLinkup. You can see what other people have been creating by clicking here.

My nails are horribly stained from an unfortunate encounter a few weeks ago with some blue nail polish, so I can’t do a traditional french mani. So, I’ve gone all out with the festive colours! Barry M Red Wine is the lovely blood-red shade that forms the basis of this mani (two coats). I then used a gold polish from Bourjois’ 1 Seconde range to add the tips and – with the aid of a dotting tool – added three dots off to one side near the cuticle.

Liquid Gold

So I decided to experiment a bit with my polishes, and see what I could do. I’ve never seen anyone else use this technique, so I like to think that I’ve invented it, though someone else probably got there first!

To create the look, paint a coat of black nail polish (I used Nails Inc New York Noir) onto one nail at a time. Whilst it was still wet, I used the normal brush from a bottle of nail polish to drop bits of gold nail polish onto the nail. It naturally self-settles and flattens out, leaving a black line between each dot. Leave to dry, and finish with a top coat.

Pro tip: give the bottle of gold nail polish a good shake first, as this gives the drops a sharper edge.

China Glaze Fast Track

imageThis is a swatch of China Glaze Fast Track. It’s from their Capitol Colours collection, which ties in with the Hunger Games movie. Each polish represents a different district, with Fast Track representing District 6 Transportation

The formula is nice and easy to apply, but you do need two coats to avoid streakiness.

In theory, the colour is a sort of nude with lots of fine gold glitter throughout. However, it was much more gold than I was expecting (and more gold, indeed, than most swatches out there on the internet actually show). It’s still a lovely shade, but I’m not sure it suits my cold skin tone quite as much as I might like.
