Dracula

Happy Halloween everybody!

This is a Dracula-themed design. I created it using Barry M Gelly in Lychee (which gave Dracula an unusually healthy skin tone; in retrospect I would have used a white!), Nails Inc Victoria for the eyes, and Rio nail art pens in black and white.

Chevron Studs

Rather simple, and I like this design so much I’ve done it twice now!

Two coats of Barry M Gelly in Lychee to start with. Then, using a nail art brush, two coats of Barry M Gelly in Blueberry in the shape of a triangle. Once that’s dry, add a coat of your favourite clear top coat, and then stick a stud on the point of the triangle. Finally, add another clear top coat on to seal in the stud.

Work-Friendly Dotticure

image

So, it was back to work today after the Chrismas and New Year period, and perhaps time for more sober, office-friendly nails.

This is a base coat of Barry M Gelly in Lychee. I then used a dotting tool to apply Barry M in Mushroom and OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls in a polka dot pattern.

Blog Scrabble

A mani dedicated to that oh-s0-wonderful game of Scrabble.

If you wanted to recreate this mani, you can do it with lots of different words, such as LOVE or LIFE, or perhaps even ‘LOVE’ & ‘HATE’ on different hands for the full hardman effect…

Tutorial: Matte Movember Mani

wpid-20131130_032935.jpg

Seeing as it’s the last day of Movember today, I thought I’d celebrate with a moustache mani.

For those of you who don’t know, Movember is a charity event that happens every November, and it involves men growing m0ustaches to raise money for and awareness of men’s health issues, including prostate and testicular cancer, which is a pretty cool thing to do! However, seeing as I am completely incapable of growing a ‘tache (being, y’know, female) nail art seemed to be the obvious answer.

I created the design using a base coat of Barry M Gelly in Lychee, and then used a Rio nail art pen to draw the moustache on. But, I hear you cry, Gelly is a hi-shine nail varnish, so how come you’re saying it’s matte? Well, I used Bourjois’ Stay Matt top coat, which is a fab mattifying top coat.

You can see the difference it makes here – the index and middle finger are just Gelly, but the ring and little finger, along with the thumb, all have So Matt on top. It looks translucent in the bottle, goes on shiny but then dries matte, and leave your nails feeling strangely smooth and strokeable!

Painting on a moustache isn’t as tricky as it looks, if you do it in stages

moustache tutorial

1. Draw a small black circle on your nail that’s a bit off centre.
2. Draw a second circle that overlaps the first
3. From the bottom of two circles, draw two curved lines
4. Round out the inner corners

Et voila, one matte Movember mani!

Daisy Dots

imageThese are some flowers and polka dots, created using:

Barry M Gelly in Lychee (two coats, base colour)

Rimmel Salon Pro in Navy Seal (blue flower colour)

OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls (white flower centre)

Nails Inc in Primrose Hill (polka dots)

Clear top coat

It was all applied using a fine nail brush and a dotting tool. Unfortunately I managed to mess up the middle finger after I’d applied it 😦
