GOTpolish: Dots

The original plan was to do a Minnie Mouse inspired design today, but then that became a guest post over at Brijit’s Digits, so a new design was in order!

The blue is 17 in Heart Beat, which I picked up for 50p in the Boots clearance recently, so it was something of a bargain! I’m still yet to work out why a pale blue is called heart beat though, as a blue heart normally means no oxygen, so i’s not beating …aaand I’ll leave it there. Maybe they pick the names out of a hat.

I then did a row of overlapping white dots in OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls, followed by a line of black dots in Nails Inc New York Noir. Finally, in the centre of each black dot I added a smaller dot of Heart Beat.

I’m also something of a fan of polka dots, and there are loooads more designs here.

Theme Buffet: Sparkle

It’s a bit past the season for full on glitter, so I’ve gone for something a bit more subtle for today’s Theme Buffet, which is all about sparkle.

I was inspired by the Hubble Space Telescope, and decided to do a galaxy mani using the colours from this photo, which is a 2010 image of the Carina Nebula.

Same design, different colours: the alternative French mani

This is a rather less festive version of a mani that I did at  Christmas, which just goes to show that this is a really versatile (and quick!) design to do

The base colour is OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls and then (from thumb to little finger), Bourjois 1 Seconde Gold, Nails Inc King Edward Street, Barry M Gelly Blueberry, Rimmel Pompous and Rimmel Salon Pro in Navy Seal.

Will You Bee Mine?

An unusually summery design for these cold winter months! I don’t normally do designs which are essentially one picture painted across five nails. In this instance, the dots represent the bee’s path across the sky.

Created using Rimmel Lycra Pro in Aqua Cool for the sky, with Rio nail art pens in yellow, black and dark blue for the design.

Tripolish Challenge / Red, Orange & Yellow / Aboriginal Art

So I’ve decided to do the 2014 Tripolish Tuesdays Challenge… exciting times! The rules are that you have to stick to the same three polishes each month, and publish a nail art design using those three colours every Tuesday. For January, I’m using three Barry M polishes: Red Wine, Gelly Mango and Lemon Ice Cream. Exciting times!

So, without further ado, here’s my first design!

aboriginal nail art

It’s Aboriginal themed, because they use a lot of red, orange and yellow rock-based paints in their art. The designs are genuine symbols and are (from left to right), kangaroo tracks, boomerang, human track and river.

Work-Friendly Dotticure

So, it was back to work today after the Chrismas and New Year period, and perhaps time for more sober, office-friendly nails.

This is a base coat of Barry M Gelly in Lychee. I then used a dotting tool to apply Barry M in Mushroom and OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls in a polka dot pattern.

You can find more work-friendly manis here and more polka dot designs here

New Year Fireworks

This is a gradient dot design that’s kinda similar to one I did for Bonfire Night, which you can see here

Created using Nails Inc New York Noir, Nails Inc Soho Silver and Bourjois 1 Seconde Gold, with the gold and silver applied using a dotting tool.

You can find out what everyone else from the Nail Linkup has been doing here http://new.inlinkz.com/luwpview.php?id=345418

Happy 2014 everyone!

Parisian Chic

Right, the Christmas manis are officially over and done with for one more year (because let’s face it, none of you are painting your nails on Christmas eve… too much present wrapping and cooking to be done at my house anyway!)

This is a Paris themed mani, inspired by something I saw on instagram, and created using Rimmel Aqua Cool, OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls and a dark blue Rio nail art pen. That thing on my ring finger is meant to be an Eiffel Tower… honest…

Merry Christmas everyone x

Die Another Day

Die Another Day because of the James Bond film, and that the plural of dice is die…. geddit?

This simple take on the dotticure was created using two coats of OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls and a Rio nail art pen in black (though in retrospect, I’d use a regular black and a dotting tool for this mani).

Perfect for a Christmas mani when you haven’t got time for anything complicated, and want to reference those dreadful board games that you will, no doubt, be playing with the family!
