Tripolish Challenge / Red, Orange & Yellow / Setting Sun

So, this is my second contribution to the Tripolish Challenge! This month I’m using Barry M in Red Wine, Gelly Mango and Lemon Ice Cream. I’ve gone for a simple gradient design today – it kind of reminds me of a setting sun

Tripolish Challenge / Red, Orange & Yellow / Aboriginal Art

So I’ve decided to do the 2014 Tripolish Tuesdays Challenge… exciting times! The rules are that you have to stick to the same three polishes each month, and publish a nail art design using those three colours every Tuesday. For January, I’m using three Barry M polishes: Red Wine, Gelly Mango and Lemon Ice Cream. Exciting times!

So, without further ado, here’s my first design!

aboriginal nail art

It’s Aboriginal themed, because they use a lot of red, orange and yellow rock-based paints in their art. The designs are genuine symbols and are (from left to right), kangaroo tracks, boomerang, human track and river.

Festive French Mani

image

This is my festive french mani for the #NailLinkup. You can see what other people have been creating by clicking here.

My nails are horribly stained from an unfortunate encounter a few weeks ago with some blue nail polish, so I can’t do a traditional french mani. So, I’ve gone all out with the festive colours! Barry M Red Wine is the lovely blood-red shade that forms the basis of this mani (two coats). I then used a gold polish from Bourjois’ 1 Seconde range to add the tips and – with the aid of a dotting tool – added three dots off to one side near the cuticle.

Tutorial: Glittery Gifts

image

These sparkly little gifts make a great way to make your nails more festive.

nail art, christmas present, christmas present nail art tutorial, tutorial, To recreate this look

1. paint your nails in a base colour of your choice (I used Nails Inc King Edward Street and Soho Silver).
2. add a complementary glitter top coat – I used Miss Sporty Oh My Gem! in Gorgeous Red and an unnamed Barry M silver glitter.
3. Using a nail brush, paint a cross in a contrasting colour on your nail.
4. Using a dotting tool, add two loops and two short lines to create the bow.
5. Using a very fine brush or nail art pen, outline the ‘ribbon’ in black
6. Using the same tool, draw little ^ shapes at the edges of the bow, and then add a circle in the middle for the knot.

Finish with a clear top coat.

Tutorial: Watermelon

image

I like to think of this design as being like a French manicure with a big twist.
watermelonnail
1. Paint your nail bright red – I used Nails Inc King Edward Street
2. Apply a coat of green nail polish to the end of your nail, rather as you would apply nail tip whitener in a French manicure. I used Sinful Colors in Exotic Green.
3. Use a nail art brush, small dotting tool or nail art pen to apply the seeds in black. I used Nails Inc New York Noir.
4. Use a nail art brush or nail art pen to apply a white line between the green and the red. I used a Rio nail art pen in white.

Take Five Red Things

image

So, I decided to freehand paint all five nails with a red base coat (Nails Inc King Edward Street) and paint on five different designs: heart, ladybird (ladybug, for my American readers), strawberry, apple and postbox using Rio Nail Art pens in black, white, yellow and green.

Here are some close ups:
