Dracula

Happy Halloween everybody!

This is a Dracula-themed design. I created it using Barry M Gelly in Lychee (which gave Dracula an unusually healthy skin tone; in retrospect I would have used a white!), Nails Inc Victoria for the eyes, and Rio nail art pens in black and white.

GOTpolish Challenge: Valentines Day

image

Happy Valentines Day everyone! This is my entry for the GOTpolish Challenge Valentines design. It was created using OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls and a red Rio nail art pen.

So, why not a more traditional, feminine design? Less because I’m a grumpy git who won’t have anything to do with this romantic nonsense (bah!) and more because the boyfriend is a first aider who likes all things medical!

New Year Fireworks

image

This is a gradient dot design that’s kinda similar to one I did for Bonfire Night, which you can see here

Created using Nails Inc New York Noir, Nails Inc Soho Silver and Bourjois 1 Seconde Gold, with the gold and silver applied using a dotting tool.

Christmas Lights… That Really Work!

image

The fairy lights on this mani really work! The wonders of glow in the dark nail polish… Unfortunately, I thought I’d got some pictures of it, and when I came to upload the pics a few days later none of them had come out 😦 So, you’ll just have to trust me that when I went to bed, I really did have fairy lights glowing back at me!

To create this look, I used OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls for the white background. I then used a nail art brush to add the string, using Nails Inc New York Noir. For the lights, the blue and yellow ones were simply – I used BK glow in the dark polish in blue and yellow (it’s a strange Chinese brand that I found on eBay and smells like it’s full of all sorts of noxious chemicals…). For the red, I used Nails Inc King Edward Street, which isn’t glow in the dark, so I overlayed it with a bit of BYS’ Glow in the Dark top coat.

I think this is going to be my last Christmas themed mani of the year, but you can check out the rest of the collection here

Festive French Mani

image

This is my festive french mani for the #NailLinkup. You can see what other people have been creating by clicking here.

My nails are horribly stained from an unfortunate encounter a few weeks ago with some blue nail polish, so I can’t do a traditional french mani. So, I’ve gone all out with the festive colours! Barry M Red Wine is the lovely blood-red shade that forms the basis of this mani (two coats). I then used a gold polish from Bourjois’ 1 Seconde range to add the tips and – with the aid of a dotting tool – added three dots off to one side near the cuticle.

Created using Barry M Gelly in Blueberry, and a Rio nail art pen in white, this is a deceptively simple design that’s perfect for an understated festive look.

Gifts II

image

This is a much simpler version of a previous present-themed design from a couple of days ago.

Created with Barry M in Teal – which is a lovely duochrome. I then used a Rio nail art pen in white to draw a cross on each nail, with two loops and two short lines to create the bow

Penguins

image

I love these little stylised penguin faces – very wintery without being specifically Christmassy.

To recreate this look, follow the diagram from left to right.
1. Paint your nail entirely in white (I used OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls)
2. Using a fine nail art brush, or a Rio nail art pen, draw an arch on the nail
3. Fill it in using more black nail polish
4. Using a small dotting tool, apply a triangle of orange nail polish for the beak. I used Barry M Gelly in Mango.
5. Using a large dotting tool, apply two white dots for the eyes
6. When dry, use a  small dotting tool to add a drop of black nail polish onto the eye

Tutorial: Glittery Gifts

image

These sparkly little gifts make a great way to make your nails more festive.

nail art, christmas present, christmas present nail art tutorial, tutorial, To recreate this look

1. paint your nails in a base colour of your choice (I used Nails Inc King Edward Street and Soho Silver).
2. add a complementary glitter top coat – I used Miss Sporty Oh My Gem! in Gorgeous Red and an unnamed Barry M silver glitter.
3. Using a nail brush, paint a cross in a contrasting colour on your nail.
4. Using a dotting tool, add two loops and two short lines to create the bow.
5. Using a very fine brush or nail art pen, outline the ‘ribbon’ in black
6. Using the same tool, draw little ^ shapes at the edges of the bow, and then add a circle in the middle for the knot.

Finish with a clear top coat.
